Enticing and understated, peaceful and pristine, the Hawaiian island of Lanai is all of those things and so much more. Lanai might be the smallest island in Hawaii, but you’ll find all the amenities you need for a memorable vacation including world-class resorts, pristine beaches, some of Hawaii’s best golf courses, and parts of the island where you can get away from it all and soak up its rustic charm.

Check into the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, perched on Hulopoe Bay, to enjoy the best of the island from golfing on an award-winning course, to top dining, and a luxurious spa — Dive the deep blue waters and explore fascinating sea life and rock formations around the islands, especially at the Cathedrals — Hike the Munro Trail to Palawai Basin to enjoy sweeping views of the island and ocean — Spend the day in Lanai City shopping, noshing on local fare, and browsing art at eclectic galleries

What to do in Lanai

Lanai is divided into three regions: Central Lanai, North Lanai, and South Lanai. If you’re craving the sun, start in the south at Hulopoe Bay, which offers perfect waters for snorkeling and a prime spot for sunbathing overlooking Puu Pehe (Sweetheart Rock). The north also offers plenty of beaches from which to choose, you can also high through nature preserves and trek out to Shipwreck Beach. In the center of the island, strike up a game of golf at the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, browse the shops and discover local cuisine in Lanai City, and hike Munro Trail to Lanaihale, Lanai’s highest peak.

What to bring home from Lanai

Lanai is a natural wonderland, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t ample opportunity for shopping. Set aside some time to explore Lanai City where you can shop under the shade of towering pine trees. The shopping district stretches for six blocks and features local art galleries, boutiques, and quaint gift shops. Look for signature Hawaiian shirts, local art and woodworking, jewelry, and local gourmet food products like Kona coffee, tropical fruit jellies, and macadamia nuts.

What to bring to Lanai

What to bring to Lanai all depends on the experiences you want to have while you’re there. Stock up on plenty of sunscreen, and don’t forget your sunglasses, and a hat. If you’re planning on hiking through the island’s beautiful and varied terrain, make sure to pack comfortable hiking boots. The tiny island also boasts three golf courses, so don’t forget to bring your game — and clubs.
